Truma & Alde Heating Systems in a Caravan

The way caravans are designed and built now, allow you to make the most of the great outdoors all year around, giving you a real home from home experience.

In a caravan, the main differences between a Truma blown air heating system and an Alde wet heating system are the principles of operation and the overall heating experience they provide. Let's explore each system:

Truma Blown Air Heating System:

  • Principle of Operation: The Truma blown air heating system operates by drawing cold air from within the caravan, passing it over a heat exchanger, and then distributing the warmed air back into the living space through vents or ducts. The heat exchanger is typically fuelled by gas.
  • Rapid Heating: The Truma system is known for its quick heating capabilities. It can rapidly warm up the living space by circulating warm air through the caravan.
  • Versatile: The blown air system can provide heating and, depending on the model, also offer cooling options. It can be combined with additional features like hot water supply.
  • Control Options: Truma systems often come with various control options, allowing you to adjust temperature settings, fan speed, and distribution manually or via electronic controls.
  • Efficient: These systems tend to be more energy-efficient, as they quickly heat the desired area without needing to maintain a constant supply of hot water as used by the Alde system.

Alde Wet Heating System:

  • Principle of Operation: The Alde wet heating system functions using a combination of radiators and in some installations include underfloor heating. It circulates a mixture of water and antifreeze through a boiler system and circulated through to the fixed radiators and back into the boiler again. This is usually heated by either gas/ electricity or a combination of the two.
  • Even Heat Distribution: The wet heating system provides a more consistent and even distribution of heat throughout the caravan. The radiators ensure that warmth is spread evenly across the living space.
  • Comfort: The Alde system is often considered to provide a more comfortable heating experience. It creates a cosy atmosphere with radiant heat from the radiators and the pleasant feeling of warmth underfoot from the underfloor heating if fitted.
  • Silent Operation: Compared to blown air systems, the Alde wet heating system tends to operate more quietly as there are no fans or blowers.
  • Programmable Controls: Many Alde systems come with programmable controls, enabling you to set different heating zones and schedules, allowing for customized heating throughout the caravan.

Ultimately, the choice between a Truma blown air heating system and an Alde wet heating system depends on personal preferences. If you value quick heating, versatility, and energy efficiency, the Truma system may be a better fit. However, if you prioritize even heat distribution, comfort, and silent operation, the Alde system might be more appealing. It's essential to consider your specific needs and heating preferences when selecting a heating system for your caravan.
